Blog Post 11 - Important Updates in the gym

Last week, I emailed all my current members with some upcoming and ongoing updates here at the gym. I figured I would share them here as a blog post to inform the Big Bear community as well. Enjoy!

Hi all, this is Coach Red. I’m sure by now you've noticed many changes in the gym. This is just the beginning. Let me explain some immediate changes as well as some things coming down the pipeline.

Immediate Changes

  1. HATC and Fight Syndicate Partnership

    1. I am partnering with the High Altitude Training Center (HATC) to provide better value to all members. This will streamline memberships and check in processes, freeing up more of my time to provide the best training experience possible.

  2. One gym, one membership

    1. Starting February 1, all current Fight Syndicate members will have full access to the entire HATC training spaces for only $5 extra per month. Please see the front desk today for more information and to get started. In addition, soon all membership rates will be increasing by $5 per month. It’s a small increase but a huge gain in value for everyone.

  3. All members required to check in

    1. It will now be standard procedure for all members to check in at the front desk when arriving for class. You will need to download the Glofox app, sign all necessary waivers, and add any family members to your account. The front desk can help you with this process.

  4. HATC Front Desk

    1. All questions about merchandise and membership will now be answered via the front desk staff. My role in the gym will change primarily to coaching, mentoring, and fight camp recruitment. Any questions with respect to starting/pausing memberships or merchandise purchases can now be answered by HATC staff.

  5. Clarification

    1. Fight Syndicate Big Bear is not being absorbed by the HATC. This is a partnership with mutual benefits for all. I’ll still be in the gym teaching and providing my members with the best training experience possible. We are still an affiliate of Fight Syndicate HQ in Murrieta.

  6. Parent Volunteer Program and New Rules for Kids Class

    1. Effective February, we are launching our Parent Volunteer Program. Any parent of a child in our youth classes can apply to be a Volunteer Mat Assistant and have a direct role in helping out our kids program. We are launching this program in light of our new rules regarding sideline coaching during class. We are asking all parents to not coach, instruct, correct, or direct their child from the sidelines, whether verbally or non-verbally. Research has shown that multiple sources of instruction can confuse children, disrupt their learning, and contribute to anxiety. We want our Cubs and Teens to take ownership of their learning and not just try to impress their parents. Our new rules will help to promote a distraction-free environment where all students will benefit. Please help us with our goal with your cooperation and support. Whether you plan to volunteer or not, we are asking all parents to sign our new agreement that clearly lays out our new rules.

Upcoming Projects/Changes

  1. HATC Ecosystem

    1. The long term vision is to create a year round high altitude training community, attracting world class athletes from all over. The big draw in the short term will be olympians training for the 2028 games, but that’s just the start. We want athletes and fighters to seek us out for the competition prep in perpetuity.

  2. Sponsorships, Investors, and Event Spaces

    1. “Made in Big Bear” is sort of the theme we’re working with, investing time and resources into local athletes and entrepreneurs to set them up for the big stages in their pursuits. HATC, in conjunction with its partners, will be sponsoring and supporting local athletes like myself and Coach Becca, helping them achieve their goals and putting Big Bear on the map as a high altitude training destination. Recently, the upstairs loft has been converted into a multi-use space for gathering, group classes, work space, and more. We are working with local businesses here on the mountain and others from afar to make this vision a reality. If you or someone you know is a local business owner or just someone with enough inclination, come talk to us about a partnership today.

  3. New/Updated Equipment

    1. We are in the works with many renovations and much needed updates around the building. Ongoing projects include restroom remodeling, replacing old/broken equipment, and making more efficient use of the space we currently have. Eventually, our mat space will be upgraded with new mats, cage panels, and even an MMA cage for fight prep and exhibitions. We just ask for your patience as this work is being done.

You’ve all been extremely patient with the transition of ownership, I promise your patience will be rewarded! Thank you all so much for your continued support, I cannot fully express my appreciation for all of you.
