Blog Post 9 - My tattoos
I had a request from a teammate to talk about my tattoos and the stories behind them.
I only have 3, so this will be a short post! Enjoy!
I’ll go in order that I got them, starting with,
The Bear on my Chest
I’ve always loved bears. Besides dogs, they’re definitely a favorite animal of mine. Bears are badass, cute as a button in one moment, ripping your throat out in the next.
My first tattoo depicts a bear roaring on the right side of my chest. The line work is really well done and the attention to detail with the open mouth, the teeth, everything, is next level.
I got the piece in Lake Elsinore at the Indigenous Ink shop by Ruben (insta: @rubenastorgatattooist).
He specializes in the black and grey style and did a phenomenal job with the bear.
I knew that tattoos were painful, but Ruben did a fantastic job and finished this one up in about 2.5 hours.
The Fight Syndicate Brand
Next was my leg, my left thigh to be exact. Beau thought it was time I get branded, so he tattooed the Fight Syndicate logo on me. Beau has branded only a few of his students, so I felt very grateful to receive it as well!
I’d eventually like to add more fight style imagery around the logo, but for now it’s dope as is.
I remember training in San Diego and my teammates purposely aiming for the logo when kicking me. Good times!
The Mountain/Forest on my Forearm
Yeah, I did the stereotypical white guy thing and got the forest tattoo. So what?
This was added before I ever thought about moving to the mountains. Becca and I always visited Big Bear and toyed around with the idea of eventually buying property there. But if you look at all my tattoos together, it would seem I manifested moving to the mountains and running a fight gym!
I got this done on my right forearm in Lake Elsinore at Mi Familia tattoo shop. The place had recently opened either right before or just after the covid shutdowns. The artist that drew it up for me normally did anime themed tattoos, but did a great job with this one.
I’m going to add to it and make it part of a greater design all the way up the arm and eventually meet the bear on my chest.
Those are the tattoos that I have for now, but I’m definitely going to get more!
